When you come to Casa Spa d’Alma you will find it is half an hour away from the South Coast, so if you want to get out of bed and land directly on the beach, see if you can rent our apartment Alma do Mar. It’s like 4 minutes walking from one of the most picturesque beaches of the Algarve.
If you want something else from your vacation, Casa Spa d’Alma is situated very central for daytrips in all directions. Of course, the B&B is ideal to stay all day long enjoying, sun, pool, jacuzzi and the beautiful garden but it is nice to combine your stay with some do-it-yourself excursions.
We will list some day-trippers and we will advise you excursions and tips for restaurants if you like.
West Coast with its wide-open beaches, lots of possibilities for wave surfing, hiking through the hills and relaxing in the white sand without neighbours that are almost on top of your towel.
- Driving on the south side of the Monchique mountains, you have beautiful views towards the Coast. Passing through Marmelete, a sleepy village with a nice circular hike and some restaurants and cafés. Next stop is Aljezur, an old Moorish town, with, next to the locals, an unconventional, bohemian like import of young hipsters and old hippies from all over the world. They introduced vegetarian and vegan lifestyle, pizza nights and Bio-shops. Aljezur is also home to Burros & Arte that offers hikes and other activities that involve donkeys. The village is nice to stop for a coffee near the market and make a small walk through the old town on the riverfront, you can even go up to the old fortress overlooking the region.
Here you also find the beach of Amoreira (7km) which is nice beach with a river watering out into the ocean but in summer overcrowded with just one restaurant.
- Go south to enjoy the silence on Bordeira beach near Carrapateira or surfing on Amado and many other beaches. First you drive direction Lagos but at a certain moment go right Vila do Bispo, you are on the coastal road to Sagres. On this stretch of coast there are many beaches, smaller and bigger. When you come to the small village of Bordeira, there starts a hike that in springtime fills your heart with many fragrances of wildflowers.
A bit further south you will find Carrapateira, turn right at the beginning to find yourself soon near one of the most stretched beaches with long rolling waves. From above the sight is breath taking. This is also an excellent start for a mellow hike on top of the cliffs.
From the village there is a 17km hike going inland through the hills to Amado beach. You can make it 20km and eat a famous pizza in Pedralva somewhere in the middle of the hike.
Amado beach, just a bit more south, has several board-surfing schools.
- Turn right from Aljezur to Odexeice with its famous beach where the border river between Algarve and Alentejo waters into the ocean.
