Change of season
In normal times the story would be like below, but in the pandemic experience, everything that brings people together is cancelled by law. Necessity? I guess so, because it seems that many people do not understand, or care about, the impact of SARS-cov-2 on a population like Monchique’s where mainly elderly people live.
Let’s hope it passes quickly now and that we can return to celebrate the change of season like before.
The air seems to be cleaner, when you inhale, it fills your body with freshness.
The smell of nature changes from the herbal summer scent into the moist smell of fallen leaves and the earthy autumn flowers. A large bush of oregano can be felt in the air from 5 meters away. He, there is a frog in the pool.
The walks in the mountains are so attractive with some trees losing their leaves in beautiful colors while others start to bloom. The strawberry trees full of red fruits and the locals pick them to make the famous firewater, Medronho.
The 1st and 2nd of November there are the Magustos, folkloric festivals with big fires to roast chestnuts. There is live music, dancing and lots of wine and firewater. People sell all the local products and everybody is walking with black hands from peeling the almost burnt chestnuts. Even children get away from the computer screen and walk hand in hand with their grandparents. Here we see no Ipads, Ipods, tablets and other smart stuff, just people enjoying themselves, connected, talking, laughing and dancing. Elementary things to feel that Life will be good again.Happy and healthy autumn
